Description |
This bass is an amalgam of old and new Fender parts. I acquired
it in June 2004 from a buddy of mine, Kennan Shaw.
The neck and Kluson style tuners are from a 2001
Fender 'Sting' Precision Bass which is why it
has the 'Precision Bass' decal and the Sting-thing
at the 12th fret. Allegedly, it's manufactured
to the original 1951-3 Precision Bass specifications,
including the thinner frets, all maple and vintage
finish. The body
is a 1969 Fender Telecaster Bass, which were essentially
reissues of the 1st generation P Bass. The neck
to this bass I believe is still in the hands of
Bobby Vega. The finish, which I believe was
blonde had been stripped to the clear coat finish.
The pickup is a Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pounder.
The bridge seems to be the original. The pickguard
is Warmoth. The
contol plate seems to be original, but the pots
are not. The strings are Thomastik Infeld JR-344
Jazz Bass roundwounds.
I wanted it for that unmistakable vintage tone. Simplicity
in it's finest hour.
As of 2006, I no longer
own this bass. It has been parted out and the whereabouts
are most likely in the hands of a gentleman on the
east coast, USA. |
