This bass was cobbled together with all kinds of cool parts and certainly commands its own identity.
The neck is a 'Fender Replacement' which is why it only has the 'Fender' decal. I purchased it on eBay for $75 because the truss rod was broken. These necks, if you can find them, can fetch upwards of $400, now that Fender stopped making them. Originally, they were manufactured to 1962 Jazz specifications. Instead of only repairing the truss rod, I had Richard Echeverria install a slab ebony fingerboard and bone nut. He
did a magnificent job and I recommend him highly. The body is a Fender
Japan '62 reissue (1992), the type which has no routing except for
the control and pickup cavities. Pickups are Dimarzios. The bridge
is a Gotoh G201c (replaced the Badass II in the photo). The strings
are Thomastik Infeld JR-344 Jazz Bass roundwounds.
As of 2011, I no longer own this bass. The neck
is now used on a Japanese Jazz Bass Special body
which can be found here. This body and the pick
ups are in someone else's hands.
