Made by Fender
in Japan, believed to be the highest quality made
at the time, these were originally produced from 1984
to 1987. Given the age of this bass, it is in almost
perfect condition.
It's generally accepted
that the more desirable 'black neck' versions were
made between 1984 and 85. These basses were made famous
by Duff McKagan of Guns 'n Roses, later of Velvet Revolver.
The pickups, tuners, bridge,
electronics, knobs with the Fender "F" logo and rubber grips on them, which is very rare, are all the original and in excellent condition.
The pickups are passive
with volume/volume/TBX (tone) controls and a 3-way
pickup selector. All came with the black hardware you
see. The neck plates and bridges do oxidize over time.
Of particular note, under the black finish on the bridge
are brass saddles.
This bass appears to have
a factory installed Schaller "drop-D" extender.
The strings are Thomastik Infeld JF-344 Jazz Bass flatwounds.
The particularly rare finish
on this bass is called Burgundy Mist Metallic and has
absolutely no flaws other than 2 dings which are located
beside the input jack and at the neck adjustment. Photos
can be viewed below.
I no longer own this bass, it was sold to a gentleman in Ohio.
